Last night i watched the movie We were soldiers for the second time, and I truly believe every person under the age of 40 should sit down and watch it with a Veteran. Maybe we would change this world. It has been said that if we learn nothing from history we are doomed to repeat it. This has never been truer than in the actions of our country’s leadership. In the past half-century young Americans, the lifeblood of our nation, have fought and died in places we cannot even spell, for people that did not want us there, in the name of false ideals and out-and-out lies. There is nothing noble about dying for your country, no honor in the slaughter of innocents; no “Proud to be an American” comes from the mouths of the dead. Since 1951 our nation has been at peace for only 5 years. You heard me right – 5 out of 63 years! Don’t believe me? 1951-1953 Korean War 1954 Covert War in Guatemala 1955 – 1975 Vietnam War 1976-1978 NO MAJOR WAR 1979 – 1987 CIA proxy war in Afghanistan, Nicaragua, invasion of Grenada, and Lebanon 1987 – 1988 Conflict in Persian Gulf 1988 - 1989 occupation of Panama, conflict in the Gulf of Sidra 1990 – 1991 First Gulf War 1992 – 1996 Iraq, invasion of Haiti 1997 NO MAJOR WAR 1998 Bombing of Iraq, missile strikes against Afghanistan and Sudan 1999 The war in Kosovo 2000 NO MAJOR WAR 2001 – to present The ‘so called’ War on Terrorism – Afghanistan, Yemen, Pakistan, Iraq, Somalia, Libya In each case our sons and daughters fought and died. For what? For politicos, potentates, and presidents with personal agendas! Are the people we ‘helped’ better off? NO! Their lives have not changed, and in some cases have gotten worse because of U.S. involvement. Ask the people of Vietnam, or the Muslims in Iraq who are still killing each other. We are in the Middle East because of OIL – don’t let anyone tell you different. Bush went after Hussein because he wanted his daddy to be proud of him, not because of WMDs – none were ever found! Obama is a real tough guy – here are just a few of his deeds: Bragged about his use of drones, “Im really good at killing people. Mandated the “Insider Threat Program” which orders federal employees to report suspicious actions of their colleagues based on behavioral profiling techniques. Maintained a presence in Iraq even after ending the war. The truth is that our major fiscal problems are due to the expenditures and debt racked up to pay for our misadventures in Iraq and Afghanistan. That is why we don’t have the funding needed to meet the critical needs of the American people here at home. I am a child of the 60’s. I remember ‘Hell no, we won’t go!’ being yelled in the streets of our cities. I saw the American flag being burned, and draft cards. I chose to join the Navy, and was trained to defend my nation. Don’t misunderstand, I am proud to have served, and proud of my children and friends who have served, but when will we see an end to it? Probably not in my lifetime, or my children’s; and if America is the ‘policeman of the world’ and so tough why does Korea still have the USS Pueblo, the ONLY American warship to EVER REMAIN in enemy hands? Could it be we are afraid to take it back and Piss off China? I have a suggestion. Why don’t we have the politicians, and Generals, and those who clamor for war go and fight the war, and leave the rest of us in peace?
