Last night in Europe. Tomorrow my wonderful sabbatical year comes to an end and Ill be flying back to the US. Despite the fact that at the beginning of my trip some envious and malicious people (nobody from here, they are not my friends anymore) tried to destroy immense pleasure that this trip represented to me, I manage to have a great time in Europe. I fit well in Europe and I think Ive deciphered this continent. All my apprehensions about European hostility to Americans ( and American educated people like me) vanished the instant I got here. What Europeans dont like are noisy, poorly dressed, arrogant Americans that flash their money in a vulgar way, but if you have manners, a good amount of culture and certain sense of elegance in your attire, this is a wonderful continent. I have experienced things like a free cab ride in Paris as well as a special discount in Warsaw just because I addressed people with good manners. And I will never forget that beautiful Parisian girl that squeezed me close to her at the Metro entrance to save me from having to buy a Metro ticket. That only happens in a sensual city like Paris. This is the most important trip I had taken in my life and in these 3 months my view of the world has changed dramatically. I have sucked all the honey, I have educated myself immensely.
