Last night in the Richmond St building, specifically apartment 704 which is - at a year and a half - the longest Ive lived at a single address since I was 15. Im now 29. Its been 14 years of living on the run, so to speak. This is the address where Sav and I set down roots, started our family, and gained a semblance of stability. As we move into a house, even as renters, I feel as though I have finally achieved some closure on a turbulent chapter of my life. The days of extreme poverty, substance abuse, and desperation are never too far off in the back of my mind but tonight I feel like I have finally broken free from the shackles of that trauma and abuse. We are up to our eyeballs in debt, we work precarious jobs, and we still live below the poverty line but we are happy. Thats not to say we dont struggle but happiness has been so illusive for much of my life and I can confidently say that it is now something I know and strive for. Thank you to everybody for continuing to support us through our journey. Boy, does it ever take a village but its a village of which we are proud to be small part. Well miss our downtown family but well be back to say hi (especially if you catch us at Rainbow on a Sunday morning, cant stay away from that place for too long!).
