Last night my career in the cinema industry finally came to a close when the Danbarry West closed its doors. Its been a wild ride since my first day at AMC when I cried in the training room because I made Gwendolyn Robb a heinous cake for her 5th birthday. (Shes graduating High School next year) I have done everything from popping popcorn to being a theatre manager, but everyone knows my heart was always in the projection room. It was only appropriate that everything ended there...the last print I threaded, started and broke down was ironically titled Lone Survivor. Its been a wild ride and I have met some of the best friends I will ever have working in theatres. Im very excited to be starting my new job at Barnes and Noble, but I will always cherish the memories from my theatre days. So to close things with a proper éclat, heres a list of 12 things Ive learned working in a movie theatre. 1. People get really upset when they order a nacho and you point out that you arent allowed to give them just one chip. 2. Hackeysacks and popcorn poppers just dont mix. 3. My boob is bigger than a baby watermelon. 4. Brandon Dickerson and I can single handedly stop 1000 people from trying to riot through a tense-a-barrier. 5. NEVER purchase a ticket to a PG-13 scary movie on opening weekend if you actually are interested in seeing the movie. 6. People also get mad when they ask for a piece of ice and you actually give them a piece of ice. 7. If Patrick Bitters ever decides to go through with his World Domination plan, my job is to piss off France. 8. People really love Denzel Washington. A lot. 9. It is ironic that people think sitting on a public toilet seat is gross but peeing all over the toilet seat in order to avoid sitting on a public toilet seat is ok. 10. Wear your hair up in the projection booth unless you really like getting your hair stuck in a motor. 11. Katherine is one of the guys. Like Hermione Granger, it takes years for people to realize that Im a girl 12. Working in a place where I am constantly surrounded by Hugh Jackman, Gerard Butler, Johnny Depp and Colin Firth makes for career longevity.
