Last night the Daily Show had a satirical piece on which states will be the last to accept gay marriage. They thought that the last 2 were likely to be Alabama and Mississippi. Maybe so, but I suspect Missouri will be high on the list Here is an example of how Missouri laws and courts are denying the rights of a survivor in a relationship because they arent married, and they couldnt get married because it is against the law in Missouri. Highway patrolman Engelhard was in a 15-year relationship with his partner (and they were raising a child) when Engelhard was killed in an accident while helping a motorist. Missouris Supreme Court has upheld the decision not to award his partner the pension benefits that normally would go to the survivor in a marriage. Missouri should be proud of its record of defending family values. (Just to avoid misunderstanding, that last sentence is bitter sarcasm.)
