Last night, the first night of Hanuka, was the first in at least - TopicsExpress

Last night, the first night of Hanuka, was the first in at least 15 years that I was not home and lighting candles with my family at nightfall. Instead, I was in parliament at the House of Commons Hanuka reception together with officers from the Board of Deputies, Jewish leaders and school children. I took a moment to think about the historic significance of lighting Hanuka candles and singing Hanuka songs at that time in that place, and the Shehehiyanu blessing we said over the candle lighting was uniquely impactful. For the majority of English history last nights event would be unthinkable -- indeed, unimaginable... May God bless the Jewish people wherever on this earth they may reside, with peace, strength and continued tikva. Happy Hanuka to one and all.
