Last night the school board was pressed to vote on two items. The first was to repurpose Hartnett school and the second was to accept a contract with BOCES to lease the building. It is very important to let everyone know this does not mean it is the end of the battle. We are walking a precarious slope that affects the entire Homer District parents, students and tax payers. The school board has agreed into a contract with BOCES that for $17,000 a month they will rent the facility. BOCES has the right to decide their enrollment is low and walk away from the lease in 5 months with no penalty. Meanwhile as tax payers we will have paid 7 million dollars to renovate the building for BOCES which if it was decided to lease or repurpose once again, the renovations would again be left on Homer tax payers shoulders.
