Last night was Yule. It is the closest full moon to the shortest - TopicsExpress

Last night was Yule. It is the closest full moon to the shortest day of the year and traditionaly was celebrated as a new year. A fir tree was cut and decorated with reflective or shiny objects and candles to invite Santa Clause into the home. It also represented a celebration of the birth of a new year and the begining or the cycle of the sun coming back and bringing its light and warmth with it. Santa Clause would come and bring a gift for each person in the house and also bring a yule log to burn to warm everyone durring the cold night. The dates and reasons for the holiday have changed and grown over the years as society picked up a solar calander system and religions fought in the struggle to convert the populace bringing to us the holliday we now call Christmas which is still about giving and many of the traditions stayed with us as they were adopted into the younger Cristian traditions and took on entirely new meanings and customs that are loved and bring joy and happiness to so many people. Let your Holliday Season be a happy event no matter what your traditions are based on. Give, be charitable to all others and dont forget the love. My heart goes out to you all. Sincerely...Kenneth Trimble
