Last night was a scary night with our 2 year old Cierra. I went to - TopicsExpress

Last night was a scary night with our 2 year old Cierra. I went to give her her midnight meds and she was cold and unresponsive. Her monitor was on and her Heart rate and oxygen levels were low but not below her protocol levels. I checked the rest of her vitals and found her temp to be 94.6 and her blood sugar at 31. It took me 6 ounces of apple juice (2 oz at a time) over 2 hours to bring her blood sugar to 70. She is currently on 30ML per hour 24 hours a day of Splash formula via her J tube and 15ML per hour 20 hours a day of diluted pedialite. Her blood sugars are so hard to regulate lately. We have lots of lows and then some highs. Last time her blood sugar was low we gave her 2oz of apple juice and it spiked her blood sugar to 185 in 30 minutes. Cierra has not been labeled and diabetic and her A1C was 4.9 recently. These high and lows have happened before but not to this extreme then they seem to level out for a few weeks. During out meeting with Genetics last week the Doctor was concerned and referred us to Endocrinology. She feels her Dysautonomia and mito conditions are interfering with her insulin regulation and she is not sure what can be done. Most likely she will be in the hospital for a few days to stress her body and watch her response. Anyone else have these blood sugar problems while on 24hour a day feeds?
