Last night was big, really big. Not just because the Lee County Board (Florida) refused to impose any more bad policy that fails our students and chose to opt out the entire district from high stakes testing. According to the article by Kathleen Jasper at Conversation ED they also decided to listen to all the research that says these tests are not an accurate measure of what a student knows. They decided to be student centered rather than system centered. conversationed/2014/08/27/they-voted-to-opt-out-and-take-stand/ The school board in essence, took the first major step in taking back their authority as a school board to operate, control and supervise all free public schools within the school district as per the Florida Constitution. WOW>>>> THAT. IS. HUGE!!!!
