Last night was definitely one of the scariest nights of my life. - TopicsExpress

Last night was definitely one of the scariest nights of my life. Annabelle has been doing great so I decided to get some fresh air and go get dinner at a restaurant across charlotte while my mom sat with her. I got a phone call from my mom saying that Annabelles heart rate had went up to 245 at that point but she thought the machine wasnt reading right or a lead was off. I told her to call a nurse and a few minutes later she called back saying the machine was correct and I needed to get back. It took us a total of 5 minutes to get from the other side of charlotte to here and it all seems like a blur. When I got to the progressive care unit there was a crash cart outside of her room so I knew something was going on. I walked in to a heart rate of 254 and Annabelle sweating profusely to keep up with her heart racing. You could see the fear in her eyes because she knew something inside of her wasnt right. They moved her back to ICU and gave her 1 bolus of medication and she instantly reacted to it and her heart rate came down. We also started a long term medication to control this for the future. This could have been the result of her heart just being irritated, all the issues we have had with the fluid on the lungs, or the fact that her potassium was extremely low yesterday because we have given her so many diuretics. We discontinued one of the diuretics today in hopes that we can maintain her electrolytes since she refuses to eat and she throws up sodium chloride and potassium every time we give it to her bc it is disgusting. We still have a ways to go but we are headed back in the right direction.
