Last night was the annual Single Malt Society Whisky Extravaganza. - TopicsExpress

Last night was the annual Single Malt Society Whisky Extravaganza. Went with my brother, Jacob Feit and Edward Sobansky. This year we had enough kosher meal requests to get a buffet from Shaloms rather than the pre-packaged meals (first time Ed ever helped make a minyan). Interesting shift this year in that several Scotch distilleries that previously had sent delegations did not send any this year. This has been the trend in the last several years. However, the Single Malt Society has compensated with outreach to other forms of single malt whisky. There were several small rye and bourbon providers. One of these, a distiller from Illinois that sells under the brand name of FEW (yes, we happy FEW), had some really good single malt American whisky. In addition, and I am not a gin fan, they had a really good gin which included grains of paradise in the botanicals and was aged in old scotch barrels. Finally, someone had a rum aged in scotch barrels which sold under the label name Opthimus. And yes, I must say, the Opthimus was indeed prime, and thus more than meets the eye. It did not, however, transform into a truck.
