Last night was the first Drawing Basics class in a 3 part workshop - TopicsExpress

Last night was the first Drawing Basics class in a 3 part workshop in my studio. We had so much fun I forgot to take pictures during class. The focus for the class was on understanding the fundamentals of drawing as a process of sensitive seeing. We did several short exercises with the technique of crosshatching to practice seeing basic 3D shapes in everyday objects. The exercises were timed to force simplicity and getting to the point. The point being... to really SEE. Looking past surface details and what you think you know, allowing the object to reveal what is important and essential through the act of drawing. This is a very rewarding exercise to hone the skill of seeing / drawing. I love this idea about drawing because it can be used to create extreme realism or abstraction in the drawing itself. Next week well kick it up a notch with vine charcoal and longer exercises.
