Last night watching the Latin Grammys, seeing Carlos Vives take the stage as he won Best Contemporary Tropical Album was a special moment. He grew up in Santa Marta, where I served, and many other Peace Corps Volunteers and myself have really enjoyed his music. During his remarks, he made sure to thank Colombia and promote the movement of Colombian music. Perhaps most importantly, he dedicated the award to President Obama for taking Executive Action last night and offering deportation relief to 4.5 millions of undocumented immigrants, giving them a chance to live and work openly, as well as keeping families united. Having served in Colombia, I was happy to see Vives representing the country, and thanking Obama on what was a historic night.
