Last night we had an interview (for Arete Living Arts board members) with a guy who was a major CEO for a large, well known corporation. He was a nice guy, but it was interesting to hear his point of view. On the positive side, he thinks big. Most of the non-profits he worked with previously were multimillion dollar organizations. He also had some views about things which were a bit strange, but perhaps not uncommon for big business folks. First he kept commenting at how unusual it was that Heathers LinkedIn profile listed her work as Executive Secretary, Poet, Performance Artist. He seemed to think arts were something frivolous and unimportant (perhaps even embarrassing). His comment on labor was that These days people only join unions because they have to in order to get a job. Im thinking about my own future and who we should work with, and thinking, what good is it to gain the world if one loses their soul.
