Last night we had my sister and her husband over for dinner, and as I was working with Cassius on not jumping up as they came in the door, Captain sauntered in the kitchen and nabbed a piece of raw salmon that was marinating on the kitchen counter. Within 2 minutes, I was on the phone to trusted friends and then to ACCES, because all I knew was that PNW salmon has a parasite that can be very toxic and possibly fatal to dogs. ACCES told me to watch him closely for diarrhea and/or vomiting--classic signs of food poisoning. In that case he would need some antibiotics. They said I would know by morning if it was going to make him sick. They advised me to not let him eat grass or drink too much water as it could make him throw up (although one of my options was to come in right away and they would induce vomiting-seems contradictory). About an hour later, Captain threw up on his own about 4 times within 15 minutes and the second time, there was the filet almost whole and intact. Thank goodness his body just rejected it.
