Last night we has a different twist to our sea turtle rescue - TopicsExpress

Last night we has a different twist to our sea turtle rescue patrol. Tropical Storm Cristobal was mixing up some very harsh weather and the environment on the habitat was clearly less than optimal survey weather. We had waves breaking on shore of 5-7 ft in some locations and massive amounts of coastal erosion. The wind was 30-40 miles an hour and blasting the rain mixed with sand. Our Staff spent most of the night monitoring nests that were washing out that could have been hatching out. Hundreds of nests were under water or completely gone from the habitat. In one area of the County, we lost more than 80% of the nests. Nova University who conducts the morning survey and marks the nests is currently doing a complete survey to see what was left undamaged.. This is not an easy task. Events like this just make our jobs that much more difficult. Thanks to All our Volunteers and those who continue to work on the habitat regardless of the weather conditions.
