Last night we overcame obstacle number two (number one being the light housings for the main light kit.) We were afraid to use the original back plate for holding my wire dreadlocks as it would considerably weaker after drilling 12 or 13 holes in it for the dreads to come out. Especially when you stop and think we only had one chance to get it right. So... we built a framework work to bolt in instead. The concept will be that Ill have 2 foot long, 1/2 (interior diameter) inch tubes coming out of the back of the helmet. Outside the tube well run about 20 18 gage wires the length of the tube. This will mostly but not completely cover the tubing. THEN inside each tube Ill insert a 2 foot long RGB LED strip that will make each dread glow from within. This will make a pretty good accent to the helmet without taking away from the main light kit. Also, huge thanks to Amy for her patience and her ability to help me make my overactive imagination a reality. And another thanks to Sara at Big Damn Heroes Workshop for several long phone and Skype calls worth of brain storming! Finally the big hurdles are done. After mowing (its to damn hot out) Im gonna start working out the fastenings for the dreads and try and get holes dremeled for the recessed magnets that will hold the visor on.
