Last night, we remembered the unbelievable gift that Harvey Milk was to San Francisco and the LGBT community, and we were filled with gratitude. Grateful for a life lived authentically, grateful for the many lives Harvey touched with his words and his advocacy, grateful for the community he worked so hard to organize and lift up, grateful for the hope he inspired in us all. Cleve Jones put it best when he reminded us how Harvey said that a movement that didnt recognize the shared struggle of other communities was destined to not go very far. As we gathered to celebrate the life of Harvey Milk, we also stood in solidarity with Ferguson and recognized our shared struggle and commitment to social justice. More now than ever, Harveys message of hope is needed to heal and to move us all to action.
