Last night we thanked the major donors to the Mayors Summer Jobs Program (MSJP) who employed 2125 youth this summer. 87% were from low income families. 56 private businesses and 37 public agencies participated. 87% of employers rate satisfaction with youth employment over 90%. 96% of youth were willing to work beyond summer. The MSJP gives Oakland youth valuable work experience that reduces high school drop outs and takes many out of their neighborhoods for the first time. It is not too early to consider donating or hiring a youth for next year. We would like to transition to year round internships. bit.ly/1zlTTqb
