Last nights Pro-Am Fight Night was a huge success. It was a mixture of MuayThai and Boxing fights. Congrats to Mike Short on the very successful Pro-Am Fight Night last night. Great event for you my friend. Some really good fights with a lot of support from Calgary. A few posts to thank you to everyone involved. Pro-Am Fight Night was like being in a time machine for me. I got to see so many old friends, peers, and students. Where to begin (and hopefully I do not miss anyone). My old training mate from National Boxing under boxing coach, the great Mansoor Esmail (miss the man), Kevin Mcdermott. Wow you look great Kevin, whatever you are doing keep it up. Where have the decades gone my friend? Got to see the ever active Doug Harder. Nice to see you Doug. Seeing my friend who helped me by working on the boxing skills of some of my old MuayThai Champions like Roy Lilley, Nedj Trejic, Chad Sawyer and Trevor Mohr back in the early 1990s, Calgarys Boxing Great Dale Brown. Great to see him (and a huge hello to his mother Ginnie BTW). Dale by the way stopped Kickboxing Great Rick Roufus in the ninth round of their boxing fight in 2001. He also stopped Art Jimmerson (from the first UFC event) in the third round. I got to see old acquaintances like Lee Mein and Lynn Villager. Nice to see my old students and former fighters like Sensei Paul Sukys. He now runs a successful Martial Arts Gym in Calgary. Of course always makes my heart happy to see Kru Vanessa Bellegarde and Kru Luis Cofre. Very successful gym owners in Airdrie. Thank you to Kru Darren Robson for assisting me and the athletes as well. Ran into Taso Tzavares, we kind of razzed each other but it was in fun and made it a great night. Obviously as usual super to see Vince Gentile. Bumped into Dean Manywounds as Zach was fighting and he won too! A debt of gratitude to all my students who busted their behinds to assist me with my athletes and keeping the dressing room moving smoothly, Kru Sandra Bastian, Dylan Bastian, KruYai Scott Clark, Dwain Soon, Hakeem Dawodu, Scott MacKenzie, Ridge Karmody, Tavis Ricafort, ... (who did I miss?). A big thank you to Kru Eak who gets very excited like me in the corner during the fights. We kind of fed off each other! Great to have you here in Canada helping my friend! A huge thank you to the guys from Fight Styles for donating the prizes to the athletes for the Best Fight of the Night. The bout between Max Carruthers vs. Javier Ortega was all that and more. A very entertaining technical MuayThai match. Big props to Javier and coaches Kru Vanessa Bellegarde and Kru Luis Cofre for taking this fight. Javier came to fight and made the bout exciting staying aggressive to the end. Congrats to Max Carruthers demonstrating his vast improvement especially in the clinch department. Javier was to receive two standing eights during the course of the event. Great showing by both athletes. Watch both these athletes fight different opponents on the next big Fully Loaded MuayThai fight event in Calgary on January 24, 2015. Mark MacKinnon won by second round TKO against a very game Matt Krayco. Matt had his boxing fight cancel so he decided to step in against Mark MacKinnon. Congrats to Mark Weisner (Mike Miles MuayThai) who defeated Arik Thankachen (Classical Martial Arts Centre) by decision. Mark and Arik had a great scrap with everyone on the edge of their seats. Congrats to Amir Vasseghi (Mike Miles MuayThai) on his win over Nick Wagner (Dynamic). That was a tough fight for sure for athletes, coaches, and supporters. Both were very game. Congrats to Natasha Beilia (Bellegardes Dragon MuayThai) on winning her bout against a very game Jenn Wolstenholme (Canadian Martial Arts Centre). Nice to have some females battling it out in an exciting scrap. Congrats to Shaun Thankachen (Classical Martial Arts Centre) on his unanimous win over Brandon Carrier (Mike Miles MuayThai). Impressed with everyone yesterday. All so professional!!! Thank you all for your support.
