Last nights church service continues to resonate in my heart and caused me to make a change. Evangelist Henrietta Lawrence preached on the topic, the power of forgiveness (Mark 11:27). God used her to help begin the process of healing for many. She touched on church relationships, family, marriages, and all other relationships. Even when you think you have forgiven and let go there may be some residue revealed the moment that person does the act again. She made a statement that will remain with me for awhile, unforgiveness is like the spirit of suicide. Theres so much truth there! Harboring unforgiveness kills no one except yourself. It negates good health, positive perspective, success, happiness, and other relationships including with God...... Now, Ive been studying the topic of forgiveness because its not as simple as some assume because to know and to do is very different. Its a process. To forgive is to stop feeling angry or resentful towards someone for an offense, flaw, or mistake. Each of these acts maybe used simultaneously but are very different -offense, mistake, flaw- and may require a different degree of forgiveness. Psychologists have theorized and developed methods of forgiving. They define it as a conscious, deliberate decision to release feelings of resentment or vengeance toward a person or group who has harmed you regardless of whether they actually deserve your forgiveness. I believe God would approve of that definition! Psychologists also say that forgiveness is not condoning or excusing what has been done but to except it without resentment. Many Christians are walking in disobedience although they attend church services, function as leaders, and practice community outreach. Unforgiveness becomes apparent when you avoid certain people, decline fellowship, or throw scriptures at your alleged offender in hopes of correcting them when you need correction. The scripture teaches not to bring your offering until you have reconciled with brothers and sisters in Christ. Your offering represents your worship, prayers, and sacrifices to God. There are videos on YouTube from psychologists which I will be posting. The videos coupled with scripture and prayers will get us through this process to obtain a more successful life. Blessings and peace, S. Taylor
