Last nights dream: The Dictionary Stand. When my aunt Mimi - TopicsExpress

Last nights dream: The Dictionary Stand. When my aunt Mimi (Erminia[!]) was alive, she had had a stroke and was confined to a wheelchair and couldnt go upstairs in her grand uptown home, except for the occasions Id carry her up. She and my mother would always ramble on how when Mimi eventually died, I would be bequeathed The Dictionary Stand. They would mention it in the reverent, hushed tones that one might use in the presence of the pope. The Dictionary Stand was clearly an object that must be so resplendent with glory that it must surely rival the pedestal on which the Ark of the Covenant must have rested, or at least grand enough to contain Daniel Websters first handwritten lexicon. I could never recall seeing such an opulent podium in her study, and Id have to occasionally go upstairs to remind myself of my future inheritance. And then Id see it, under the dictionary, of course. It was a wooden box. Not particularly interesting wood, either; just tannish-grey varnished wood that might have come from Ikea. Its not even tilted, like youd expect a reading stand to be. The surface is flat, and its about two inches tall, meant to rest on a regular table. I have a chessboard with about the same dimensions, and in a wooden box/dictionary stand beauty contest, the chessboard would win hands down. But I inherited it, and its still around to this day. Should you care to see the famous Dictionary Stand, it rests in the tender care of Grace Hogan Fitzmorris. And it was the subject of last nights dream.
