Last nights dream/nightmare: I joined the company of Pippin and somehow end up onstage in a number Im not in/dont know the choreo for. I proceed to follow/copy/improv but Joe Reid keeps calling me out under his breath. Ha! BUT our partnering is surprisingly good. Carly Hughes is nailing it so I figure the audience wont really notice that my final pose it slightly different than everyone elses, but I spy Michele Lynch taking notes in the wings. Damn. Busted. Next scene: Im going on as Aunt May (Pippin/Spidey apparently) but I cant find my costume. Whitney Sprayberry and Monette McKay are in the dressing room telling me I was fine in the last number. Lies! Love my friends but no time to talk, I have to find my costume. I find Jackie S Freeman, thank God. She is ready with my quick change and has a copy of the new lines...Spider-Man has just added some French dialogue, of course. Panicked. Ken Marks is going over his new French stuff but Im dead if I try it from memory.I make a plan to take my lines onstage. The scene is: we are breaking it to Peter that his parents are dead and he is coming to live with us. I figure I can ad lib something about how I wrote down the words I wanted to tell him. Ill do her as a sort of pre-Alzheimers Aunt May. Not brilliant but it might work. Only potential glitch is that Peter is played by a child actor and improv might throw him. Ah well, its my only option. A limp, gray wig is being placed on my head when I notice that Aunt Mays usual house shoes have been replaced by bedroom slippers in the design of HOT DOGS; complete with red and yellow stripes indicating ketchup and mustard. I think, hmmm, maybe its an attempt to make Aunt May more accessible to the audience? Im in a too tight slip, gray wig, HOT DOG slippers, French lines tucked into my bra, when I realize I dont remember the tune to her song. Screwed. Woke up, heart POUNDing. Too much.
