Last nights game saw just the ten players make it to the Tuesday - TopicsExpress

Last nights game saw just the ten players make it to the Tuesday night game at the Shield. There was still lots to play for with six or seven players still jockeying for the top five season money spots. This lead to several people playing fairly cautiously whilst others needed to go for it in order to try for a high points finish on the night. Unusually we lost a player prior to the first break. The unfortunate member in question was Richard Smith who made a full house only to find that Alec had himself got a higher full house to take all his chips. The first break and then indeed the dinner break were reached with the remaining nine players still alive and attempting to make the final table. Upon the resumption Kelvin Williams was knocked out on the very next hand taking 9th place. This lead to the final table starting at an earlier than usual time of 10pm. Two of the bigger stacks at this point were Alec and Glenn Beere who both had won decent pots and eliminated players. The final table started with blinds lower than normal. This lead to play being a little more cautious than a standard Tuesday night. It took a good while before we lost our next player and it was Scott Wright who bit the dust once again losing on the river card. It was Glenn this time who got all his money in with a heart flush draw only to hit the 6 of hearts of the river. Sharyn Chivers had got especially short at this point and having managed one double up was soon forced all in again and was taken out when Eugenia Phkhakadze made a lucky straight on the river. At this point the action speeded up and two quick eliminations occurred. Firstly Alec took 6th place when Stelios Paphitis made top pair against his AK. Then Stavros Paphitis took a gamble against Will and lost when his Q9 failed to hit against Will with A3. At this point the game had to be suspended briefly when in the Greece V Ivory Coast game, which was poised at 1-1, Greece were awarded a penalty kick. The Greek members of our group held their breath as Samaras had the opportunity of keeping their world cup dream alive. Much celebration ensued when the goal was scored. After this brief halt the game resumed and it seemed like no one cared now that Greece had made it through. Eugenia was the next elimination in 4th place being taken out by Glenn who was amassing a huge amount of chips. This left us with this weeks final three of Will, Glenn and Stelios, with Glenn holding the upper hand. Indeed he then further strengthened his grip when he knocked out Stelios in 3rd place when his QQ held up against A8. The heads up battle was fairly brief, Will managed to double his short stack twice, before being busted by Glenn who made trip 2s against his top pair. This left Glenn as this weeks champion. Congratulations this week go to Glenn on his victory on the evening. But congratulations must also go to Will, Alec, Eugenia, Stelios and Stav for being this Summer Seasons top 5 players. See you all next week. Thanks.
