Last nights gig at Herb Alperts jazz club Vibrato in LA was nothing short of a scene out of a Fellini film. Liza Minnelli and Billy Dee Williams perched in a haze of timeless grace to my left; Emmy-award winning director and Playboy model to my right; the Princess of Thailand with full court and security detail in tow front and center below me, and above to the rear of the room Russian models flanked by their armed mobster handlers. Joining me on stage was legendary Brazilian percussionist and National Heritage Fellow Carlinhos De Oliveira, father to my dear friend Ted. When he wasnt onstage igniting my slack key with his samba rhythms, I spied him reminiscing with Liza.. turns out they have some romantic history :) When not being heckled (yes seriously heckled!) by the Princess, I juggled Lagavulins with ivories and Carlinhos pandeira, sailing through Hawaiian to blues to classic rock to cabaret and comedy. God bless LA, and the woman at the bar who donned the citys budget in diamonds, but didnt care enough to take the curlers out of her hair. #TrueStory So Im up in Cayucos now with some friends, getting ready for our CD release party/ jam session at Steves Good Clean Fun Surf Shop (136 Ocean Ave, Cayucos, CA) later today (Friday- Halloween) from 5-8pm. Its free (donation suggested) and Ill be playing music and signing copies of my new double album 25. Maybe see some of you there. Cayucos is my fave little surf town in Cali, near Morro Bay.
