Last nights inaugural Nexus Film Festival, The Red Carpet was a fabulous evening of glitz, glamour and glorious film; an unqualified success. Well be posting photos of the event soon but whilst we wait, see how many of the 22 film titles referenced in Mr Wades opening speech you can spot: At Nexus we like to encourage communication, collaboration and creativity. Although the basic instinct of kids is towards natural expression, it’s often a rocky road and groundhog day for parents every weekend; too many kids like being left home alone to lounge around on the sofa whilst their parents are gone. With the wind of enthusiasm behind them, it’s always the usual suspects that step up each time. Learners have a sixth sense for this kind of thing, particularly where technology is involved, but still too many children are frozen with fear at the thought of expressing themselves. Thanks to the help and supportive environment provided by the good fellas and ladies at Nexus, there is a tremendous amount of good will, hunting down creativity, encouraging our learners to express themselves. Creativity within effective learning is on the up. Some people think that’s despicable, me, I think it’s great. I was saying to a taxi driver earlier that it’s a good thing education is more holistic in schools today and that we should not look back. To the future is where we should cast our eyes. Even if they are not announced as winners this evening, feeling the heat, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, our learners will all have a great memento or se7en of 2014 and being part of the first Nexus Film Festival: The Red Carpet.
