Last nights speech by Stuart Scott at the ESPY Awards was simple - TopicsExpress

Last nights speech by Stuart Scott at the ESPY Awards was simple and profound. I LOVED and want to SHOUT YES for what he said about dealing with cancer. I HATE the line that someone lost their battle with cancer -- for, in some ways, it implies that the person ended up losing. With that can come the connotation that if only they had tried harder, or had a better game plan, or did something different, they could have won -- and that those who survive the dreaded disease did something better, and thats why they lived and others did not. I can tell you, no one fought harder or better than Sheri, my late wife. And, I truly believe that she conquered cancer because she never let it define her life. While cancer was the reason for her passing -- she WON the struggle to be an extraordinary person of incredible success. And, thats what was said from the stage last night...for one of the first times in a widely broadcast forum. None of us are getting out of this alive. Cancer may be the reason. But, you conquer the disease when you live the best life you can with whatever time you have. God bless everyone dealing with that challenge...and may you never let it define who you are and how you live the life with which you are blessed.
