Last nights storm proved to be one for the WIN column for Mother Nature. Our house was struck around 4:30 am. The fire alarms screeched and shouted FIRE! GET OUT! (of course our detectors all talk to each other so all 10 are going at once!) We got everyone out while calling 911, waited for the trucks and could only watch the rain pour down. Two ladder trucks, fire chief, ambulance, sheriff and police arrived! After checking it all out they determined there was no fire and not sure we actually got hit, but 5 circuits got flipped and they reset all of the smoke detectors. Well, we checked it out once morning rolled around and sure enough- the chimney and siding were fully zapped! We have a hole in the chimney, lost siding and charred wall under that. I did call the fire dept again to check for a possible smoldering fire in the wall and they found nothing. Whew! So, thank you McHenry Fire Department and other quick responders for being so thorough and helpful! We are so thankful for our good and safe outcome but honestly, Id like a good nights sleep!
