Last nights vehicle fire on the interstate began with a young - TopicsExpress

Last nights vehicle fire on the interstate began with a young mother travelling through the area with her 6 month old infant. Driving through the fog she was unable to see smoke coming from her vehicle. When she could smell a fire she quickly and safely pulled her vehicle to the side of the road and then she noticed the black smoke coming from her vehicle. Her instinct was to grab the only thing important to me, my baby and run to safety and then call 911. An Illinois State Police Trooper was just a few miles away and arrived quickly, checking on the mother and child. The Trooper was able to save a few of the possessions from the vehicle. The Marshall Fire Department and the Sugar Creek Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire, although the vehicle was a total loss (a photo was posted on our page earlier of the vehicle). This is where the story turns good. This young mother and her baby had nothing left such as diapers, formula, and bottles. Their help was coming from Columbus Ohio and wouldnt arrive until early morning. One phone call to the Marshall Ministerial Alliance and within minutes mom and child were provided with an emergency supply of formula, diapers, wipes, baby pajamas and a hotel room. Our service organizations, churches, emergency services and residents always seem to provide to those truly in need. A complete stranger. Mom was very appreciative of the police and fire, but when she had no idea what to do in her time of need with her baby she was ready to cry when she was told of her emergency assistance from the Marshall Ministerial Alliance. She couldnt say thank you enough. We have many great service organizations and churches who provide assistance in so many ways, what we dont see is that assistance is provided by them every single day in one way or another, from situations like this to school supplies, food and clothing banks and countless other ways. The next time you donate your time, money, services or anything else to these organizations please know that many times it goes to benefit people during some very desperate times. We got to see first hand the gratitude from mom and got to look at an innocent young baby who was benefiting from the generosity of our communities. Some things are priceless.
