Last spring my community wellness program - 6 Weeks to a Healthier You - was presented in Lynnwood, WA, for the third year in a row. Over 375 people participated. The program has been acclaimed not only for delivering accurate information on how to live a healthier lifestyle, but for moving audiences to do so. TIME magazine calls it “a positive force for healthy changes.” The program consists of six sessions (one per week for six weeks) and a six-month follow up session. A biometric profile is taken at the start of the program and at the six-month follow up to determine if participants have instituted lasting changes in healthy eating, effective exercise and stress management. Here are some of the biometric results from the Lynnwood program: 43% of participants lost >5 pounds and kept it off for six months 25% of participants lost >10 pounds and kept it off for six months Exercise minutes on average per week were increased by 42% Blood pressure (systolic) on average was reduced by 5% Triglycerides on average were reduced by 6% Glucose on average was reduced by 5% Self-reported ability to cope with stress increased by 9% We are so pleased with these results as it confirs that a) lifestyle habits count, and b) healthy habits can be formed in a short period of time.
