Last week, Daniel Berlin became the first blind runner to successfully complete the R2R2R crossing in a single go. There were 4 guides: Charles Scott, Pete Kardasis, Alison Qualter Berna, and Brad Graff. We completed the Bright Angel - North Kaibab - Bright Angel return in 28 hours on October 7th. Dan, who became a marathoner AFTER he lost his sight, describes his blindness as an inconvenience instead of a disability. Rather than focusing on what he cannot do, he explores what he can do. His story is a reminder to overcome the limitations we all place on ourselves, that each person is capable of accomplishing more than s/he might think. October is Blindness Awareness Month. We are raising money for two blindness foundations and can tailor the story to include the many issues surrounding the 20 million Americans affected by blindness. For example, updates on research, empowering blind people in the workplace, opportunities to inspire blind children, or the challenges faced guiding blind athletes in all types of athletic endeavors.
