Last week, David Jacko posted the question why the attendance for the monthly jam has seemed to decrease over the last couple of months. I was thinking about this question and came up with a couple of things that I was concerned with. For the last few months, I have posted here on the FB page some song and group ideas. I seemed to get positive responses from the song choices I have posted. Then, when it comes time for the monthly meeting/jam, No one seems to (or wants to do) anything different than the usual SRV blues shuffle, some generic 12 bar blues and Gimme One Reason and a handful of others. I have nothing against doing these songs and jams. I just feel it would be cool to introduce some new songs and make it exciting and stretch out in context of an open jam. As a musician, I want to expand beyond the norm. Im also a lover of music as I would suspect many of us are. So, post some song ideas, jam ideas. Then, if something appeals to another musician on this page, they can take that song and learn it and play along to it at home or whatever. Then, when it comes to the next Guild jam, everyone has a bunch of new ideas and maybe have touched on some new songs to challenge themselves and make it exciting to be jamming again. Its just a thought of my own.
