Last week Federal Education Minister, Chris Pyne, called on - TopicsExpress

Last week Federal Education Minister, Chris Pyne, called on Universities to silence pro-palestine activists, specifically saying that their right to freedom of speech should be suspended. Across the country, students who have stood up for the rights of the Palestinians have faced slanderous and unfounded accusations of anti-Semitism. Four days after Christopher Pynes article, the Monash Socialist Alternative club was suspended by the Monash Clubs and Societies Executive, citing claims of anti-semitism by a zionist student political organisation. This is a very serious attack on freedom of speech and solidarity with Palestine. Suspension of a club at university prohibits those students from organising events and engaging in the political life of the campus. Please sign and share the petition! It sometimes seems that petitions do not do much, but just recently a similar suspension at UWA was lifted because of a free speech campaign, the support received by the petition was quite significant in that.
