Last week I found a good deal on marked down bell peppers and marked down fresh mushrooms. Since my peppers did not do well this year, our stash of frozen ones was already getting low, so when I see a good deal on them in the store, I snag them, use one or two fresh and dice the rest to freeze on a baking sheet and then gather into a bag, loose, for in cooked dishes. Mushrooms have to be blanched or sauteed before freezing, so I chopped them, sauteed the lot of them and froze some, then the skillet I used went on to make spaghetti sauce with some of the pepper pieces, onions, etc for supper.
