Last week I got myself into some serious trouble when I asked - TopicsExpress

Last week I got myself into some serious trouble when I asked someone to ‘take it easy’ at work. Things got pretty ugly as emotions began to run high and a heated exchange of words turned the whole thing into a nightmare; I became guilty of the same thing I was fighting. As I drove to work this morning - I was trying to keep my thoughts composed; away from all the cacophony, seeking sanity amidst absurdity. I turned the radio on & Guy Raz of the Ted Radio Hour had the perfect set of stories to play on Chennai Live. A message to me from the 5th dimensional beings perhaps. The world we live in makes us to believe that we have been built to shine, designed to fly and there is a genius within us who can be woken up by the practice what a Robin Sharma calls the ‘extreme achiever formula’. Pressured by our need to grow the corporate ladder, we get intimidated so easily with things around us and we end doing unpleasant things, trapping ourselves into a self-constructed war zone. In the process we forget the importance of ‘stillness”. To borrow words of Pico Iyer, In an age of constant movement, nothing is so urgent as sitting still. Our primal need has always been to stay competitive – to be successful, to build a perfect living. Caught up in all the action we have forgotten living, we have forgotten how to be nice. If you can steal an hour this week, I recommend you listen to this episode that talks about how can we step back and make time to reflect in an increasingly distracted and hurried world. Just look for a Ted Radio Hour episode called ‘quiet’ on NPR.
