Last week I had a unique campaign experience. Background: earlier in the week I was making some calls to voters. I spoke with a woman who was very excited to get my call. She indicated she lives in the assisted living section of Heritage Park and wondered if I would have lunch with her on Friday. Knowing how lonely people can get in nursing homes, I accepted. We met in the dining room and had a great time. We initially sat with two other ladies and had a great conversation. During the conversation it turned out one of the ladies had already received her absentee ballot. Upon hearing that, another said she was afraid she missed the deadline. I informed her she still had time and that I had the form in my car. I got the form and then found out several had just moved into the ‘neighborhood’ so I got voter registration forms from my car. I ended up registering five and getting absentee ballot requests for six. To top it off, the ladies bought my lunch! What a great afternoon and how rewarding to make sure these ladies could vote!
