Last week, I heard about a wonderful project to help children who stutter and stammer and thus have no confidence in themselves let alone at school with reading where they are often teased. These kids are taken to a veterinary hospital and encouraged to read to the animals there. Not only does this help the kids, but it gives happiness to the animals hearing a voice and having the human contact. I took this one step further today, with Zawa, and whilst sitting in his cage with him, I read to him of one mans love of Africa. Zawa crawled onto my lap, and lay there for over an hour, taking comfort in the warmth of my body and the timbre of my voice. Dear Brian Connell, with no disrespect to your wonderful book, Msomi And Me, Zawa did fall asleep, but it was a long comforting sleep! Tomorrow we read again… I am really enjoying it too, despite the slightly cramped conditions for a human!!! :) Thank you Alphen Vet for putting up with my idiosyncrasies and for taking such great care of my kitten!
