Last week I spent 5 days away from my classroom and my kids scoring the New York State Alternate Assessments for our region. I not only had to pass a test in order to do that, but I was responsible as a Table Leader for a group of 3 other colleagues. I also had to plan for an entire week of being out of school and make sure my staff and my kids were OK and well taken care of. This weekend, I am spending my free time writing 15 IEPs for next weeks annual review meetings for each of my students. People say teachers are spoiled and that we have so much time off. I say we are the most hard working profession there is and are responsible for the most important product - our kids. I wouldnt trade it for anything and I am not complaining - I just want people to know the reality of being a teacher.
