Last week, I spent a very productive day in Kilkenny, where I met with local farmers’ representatives; members of Kilkenny chamber of commerce, and also paid a visit to the National Craft Gallery in the Castle Yard. As a newly elected MEP representing Kilkenny, I was delighted to meet with local farmers and business owners to hear their concerns first hand and to highlight my role in the European Parliament and outline what steps are being taken to address issues such as the price of beef paid to farmers and job creation. As a member of the European Committee on Transport and Tourism I fully understand the role that tourism can play in our towns and cities. Kilkenny has a rich medieval heritage; an excellent range of local crafts as well as a legendary sense of hospitality, and I look forward to working with national bodies such as Fáilte Ireland as well as my colleagues in the European Parliament to ensure that Kilkenny remains one of Ireland’s premier tourist destinations. Many thanks to Cllr David Fitzgerald for organising the visit and for taking time out of his busy schedule.
