Last week I visited and old friend that I had not seen for 28 years. We have known each other since we were 10 years old. And as time and life move on we did also, and lost touch. With Face Book it became easier to connect with people and catch up. So my friend lives in Southwestern, Utah. He has a large extended family and is Loved by them all for his hard work and devotion to them. Kind of like the Waltons on Steroids. :) One very interesting fact.......is a few of the houses he has....... is in a very rural area..... and is basically a sandstone ......Butte......hollowed out and finished to make a home that would make Fred and Barney jealous. All off grid, solar powered, propane fired cook stoves and wood stoves to make home.......fy. On my way to see my old friend.....I stopped off in ...........Southeastern Colorado and met with Rachel Murphy, (last photo ) her children and a few friends, we sort of had my first cheese making class involving other then me. :) Rachel wanted to make a Muenster. She bought 4 gallons of Homogenized, and Pasturized milk. We hit one glitch....... during the process that bears repeating. When adding Rennet to the milk it is supposed to be mixed with a 1/4 cup of non tap water. We did not have that so....... decided to use the tap water and microwave it to boil out any impurities. Well....the Rennet was added to soon and it failed to make curd after the first 30 minutes. Some research on my part indicated the Rennet was to be added to cool water. Made the cool water and mixed in additional Rennet and all worked fine. It made about 4 one pound wheels for Rachel and her family to enjoy around the Holidays. Back Home now.......better get some firewood hauled to the house as the colder weather approaches. Have a great Day !
