Last week I was able to watch four movies as a part of Israeli Cinema Festival SERET 2014 in London. I should say that surprisingly all the movies were amazing. The most impressive movie was Hunting Elephants with Sir Patrick Stewart, extremely funny, sad and touching at the same time. After the movie as a part of Q&A he told the audience, that he realised the complexity of Israeli situation, while filming a scene on one of the roofs of Jerusalem, while he was shocked to be able to see from there the mountains of Jordan. Six Acts explored the boundaries of what is approached as normative and what is considered as abuse in the life of Israeli teens. Big Bad Wolves was completely shocking, very black humour and at the same time very beautiful movie that definitely goes beyond Tarantinos on-screen cruelty. Bethlehem is pretty straightforward and very well done movie about Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the personal dramas around it on both sides. Again, great experience and hope more people will be able to explore Israeli cinema.
