Last week John and I pulled out the dead plants from the garden we started last year, dug out roots of trees which thought as there was good soil they would just spread; added sheep, cow and pelletised poultry manure; dug, forked and watered it into the bed. Then this morning my brother arrived with a ute load of soil. He shoveled all the soil onto the garden and into the vegetable beds at the back of the house. I helped by staying out of his way and making cups of tea. When John arrived home from work we removed nine roses from their too small pots and planted them into nice new fertilised soil. Added five miniature roses and six new guinea impatiens to the bed, and gave them all a drink of seaweed solution. About 6 weeks should see lots of blooms - I hope. Tomorrow will add a layer of mulch. Just need some colour at ground level, probably some spreading petunias. Thanks little brother for getting us started last year and for the load of soil today.
