Last week, RTA Chairman John S. Gates, Jr. made a number of significant recommendations to give the RTA additional tools to ensure transparency and accountability of the service boards. We look forward to working with the entire Legislature, the Governor and local leaders within the RTA region to improve mass transit. RTA is currently conducting an audit of the separation agreement that the Metra Board approved regarding Mr. Clifford. The record shows that RTA has a history of fiscal leadership including: since the inception of RTA, the service boards have always had balanced budgets; RTA has stopped the CTA from borrowing beyond its means; and RTA has overseen a pension system that is funded above 70%.
