Last week, Woody Allens newest movie opened, titled, Magic in the Moonlight.. a writer for a magazine interviewed Mr. Allen..during the course of the interview, the writer asked Mr. Allen, Why is your characters so neurotic, why do they feel so depressed, so nihilistic?...Mr. Allen said that he has written these characters to reflect his own worldview..he said that, The world IS dark, there is NO MEANING to life at all, so, have a good day.. This attitude permeates our culture, at least among the intellectual set..BUT it ALSO reflects what Solomon said in Ecclesiates..the world IS a dark place..there IS no meaning UNDER THE SUN...BUT, WAIT..was Solomon ultimately mistaken ? IS there meaning to life? This past Sunday, Pastor David Rea (Providence Presbyterian Church, Dallas Texas) delivered what I consider to be the best message on the meaning of life that Ive ever heard; looking expositionally at Ecclesiates chapters 6 and 7..this message is titled DARKNESS UNDER THE SUN.
