Last week, four-time Danish World Champion freediver and “Breathology” innovator Stig Severinsen achieved a new Guinness World Record by swimming 500 feet (152.4 meters) underwater below one-meter-thick ice on a single breath of air. In the midst of a crush of media responsibilities following his record-breaking swim, Severinsen graciously answered email questions from DeeperBlue about the event, his training leading up to the attempt, and the logistical nightmare of conducting dive operations in an extreme environment:
