Last week of August, 1962....Rich Worley and were swimming at the silver plunge and when we got out he gave me a ride home...pretty soon I heard a car horn honking in front of the house and looked out and saw Mr. Worleys 58 Chevy...went out to see what was up and Rich said his mom told him to come get me and bring me over to watch preseason football and eat hamburgers ...Mr. Worley, Rich and I sat and scoffed burgers while Richs mom was working like a waitress hustling root beer back an forth to us and we were dwelling in the land of nod, east of Eden, I guarantee you...that was a great time in the lives of baby boomers and friends parents knew you by name and welcomed you In their homes and we had no idea America would be this skewed from those standards here a half century later...if youre younger than a baby boomer, you will never know why we boomers are so nostalgic today for what we called better times, even though we had to watch football in black and white on only 19 to 23 inch screens from a tube that was encased in a piece of furniture that only got three or four channels... Anyone know what Im talking about?
