Last week our current English for University group had a visit from the University of Surrey. Katie Sharpe, an International Officer, gave an interesting and informative talk about life at the campus-based university for international students. It provided an invaluable insight into how the university operates, from the types of courses on offer to the accommodation provided. As a current PhD student in the Politics department of the university, Katherine talked about the differences in teaching methods between universities in the UK and elsewhere in the world, and in particular the emphasis on learner autonomy.
