Last week, the Florence Academy offered a week-long figure drawing experience to high school students at the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts in Astoria, NY. This special high school for visual and performing arts was founded by Tony and Susan Bennett. Twelve students were selected to join in. Florence Academy graduate, Leo Mancini, set up an almost identical classroom as they would experience in Florence. Students were given techniques for measuring and observing the live model, in particular sight size, as well as an introduction to drawing materials, measuring tools and techniques, and art history.
