Last week, the House Labor-HHS-Education (“LHHS”) - TopicsExpress

Last week, the House Labor-HHS-Education (“LHHS”) Appropriations Subcommittee scheduled and then postponed its markup of its FY 2014 funding bill. Although the bill never went public, an article from the New York Times indicates that the draft version included cuts that would be devastating to TRIO: "The labor and health measure — for years the most contentious spending bill — will protect some of the White House’s priorities, like Head Start, special education and the National Institutes of Health, but to do so education grants for poor students will be cut by 16 percent and the Labor Department by 13 percent, according to House Republican aides." As Congress prepares to depart Washington, DC for its annual August Recess period, COE is asking all TRIO supporters to commit to engaging in local outreach efforts to their Members of Congress – including participation in town hall meetings, on-site visits to your programs, etc. – between now and September 1.
